SHINES – Turning tidal and rivers into tomorrow’s energy
Inyanga Marine Energy Group is a partner in the SHINES project (Showcasing Hydrokinetic energy Innovations for Northwest European Energy Sovereignty) a collaboration which brings together 14 partners from 6 countries to test three innovative technologies in real-life conditions.
This ambitious €10 million project is co-funded by the European Union through Interreg NWE. Tests will take place in France and the Netherlands, with a clear goal: to prove that hydrokinetic energy can play a key role in Europe’s energy transition.
Inyanga will design, construct and install a grid-connected 600kW tidal energy turbine on the Paimpol-Bréhat test site in France, then operate and monitor the device throughout the test period.
In addition, Inyanga will install and maintain the SeaQurrent TidalKite device at Paimpol-Bréhat, managing all offshore operations.

East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
HydroWing has signed a binding agreement with one of PLN’s Subholdings to develop plans for the first tidal current power plant in Indonesia. The 10MW tidal energy project is planned to be located in East Nusa Tenggara in the Indonesian archipelago.
PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) is the state-owned national power company in Indonesia and owns the national grid.
This follows on from a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022 whereby the two parties agreed to accelerate tidal energy in Indonesia through site identification, resource assessment and front-end engineering. The site at East Nusa Tenggara has now been selected following a thorough assessment of different tidal energy locations all over the country.
Capul, Philippines
In January 2024, Inyanga Marine Energy Group were awarded a contract to build Southeast Asia’s first ever tidal power generation plant. Awarded by Energies PH, Inc, through its affiliate San Bernardino Ocean Power Corporation, the contract is for Engineering, Procurement and Construction.
The site will be at the remote Capul Island of Northern Samar in the Philippines, along the San Bernardino Strait, a passage well-known for the strength of its marine currents. The 1MW project, which is expected to deploy in late 2025, will use Inyanga’s innovative HydroWing tidal stream technology. Find out more
Morlais, Wales
In Autumn 2023, HydroWing were awarded a contract for a 10MW tidal stream energy project in Wales, through the UK government's Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 5. The project will be located at the Morlais tidal energy site in Anglesey, which is managed by the social enterprise Menter Môn. The Morlais site is Europe’s largest consented tidal energy scheme. In September 2024, HydroWing were awarded a further 10MW through Allocation Round 6.

Indonesia
In September 2022, UK-based tidal energy developer HydroWing signed a Memorandum of Understanding with state-owned company Indonesia Power to support and develop tidal energy projects in Indonesia. This will accelerate tidal energy development in Indonesia through site identification, resource assessment and front-end engineering.
